From Ashes
Contemporary Art Exhibition

From Ashes features works in many mediums: painting, poetry, writing, video, performance, photography and an audience participation work. Its aim was to expose the development process and exploration of change experienced by the artist, while creating works in mediums which up till now were unexplored. This process has been an interactive one, the work was shared online over the course of its creation spanning at least 2 years. It showcases the steps taken on the journey while also expressing many aspects of the artists inner world. From the development of a narrative oil painting, a 20 minute performance and development of a unique style with water colors, this exhibition invites the audience right into that internal process of exploration and transmutation.

As part of the From Ashes exhibition Aishling introduced an element of participatory works to the show. She asked the audience to take a white stone and express on it what creativity had meant in the peoples lives. The responses where mixed with everything from words, illustrations & combinations of both. What became very clear was that creativity had really played an important role in the peoples lives who participated in the project. Aishling decided to continue the project in an online format, opening an Instagram page where people from all over the globe could now also choose to participate.

The local landscape here is filled with Duns & Raths, places that if you are living here you might take for granted. But these places are filled with mystery & wonder. Aishling has "Drawn Up" references to this reservoir of visual culture that we are all steeped in. Stars, spirals and flower forms re-emerge within her pieces as if arriving independently themselves with the artist as a channel. Presences filter through.
