From Ashes is a photographic series of self portraits on the themes of death, rebirth and renewal in our inner, outer and environmental landscapes. Here Aishling works with the backdrops of the personal, societal and collective devastation many have experienced resulting from COVID situated within the environmental devastation caused by the recent forest fires in North Evia, Greece. |

Aishling captures self portraits through live performance in a vintage costume. This costume has been coated with a layer of ashes taken from a 2500 year old olive tree, lost to the Fires in Rovies in North Evia. All Images to date have been captured in the woodlands near Drimonas in North Evia in September and November 2021. It is hoped to continue with this work in 2022. |
From Ashes is a work in progress. To date Aishling has received financial support from Westmeath County Council's Regional Arts Office through their annual artist bursary as well as receiving kind donations from the public through an online funding campaign. Aishling plans to return to the landscapes in North Evia at least twice in 2022. If you would like to support the work you can find out more information at this active Go Fund Campaign.
Aishling has been awarded an Agility Award from the Irish Art Council to continue this work in 2022.
Many thanks for the kind support to date, it has been crucial to allow the work to happen.
