Meeting of the Waters - Locative Media Oceania

Locative media training course, themes of water, climate change, deep time and cultural knowledge
36 Participants from 5 continents co-created locative media projects over the 2.5 week program.
Collaboration with Supercluster, Treecreate, Centre for Applied Water Science, University of Canberra.

Through locative media and storytelling we connect people with each other, their places and ancestral knowledge, including a shared concern and the need to act for the restoration of ecosystems, living with climate change, in the light of forced migration and the loss of biodiversity. In this online creative and educational program we explored the themes of water, climate change, deep time and cultural knowledge.

Circulation is an artistic introspective message and response interaction. Locative media technologies coming together with the wind and waters of the worlds surface in circulation. A virtual message in the bottle…. Circulation is an artistic response of a team of five professionals in the arts and environmental fields to the Oceania meeting of the waters locative media project.
Picture

The team embarked on a journey of sending messages by virtual bottle, the direction dependant on the water currents and wind while using locative media technologies to log their entries and thoughts. Circulation has been devised and created by Aishling Muller, Elia Hauge, James Murray-White, Sue Finley and Valerie Price

The entire program of LMO is about learning and sharing in a horizontal educational setting. In some ways applying this model was an experiment and what a wonderful process it has been so far.
