Spirit of Water

A Live Art Work, Video Project
Release of Icelandic Runes Into Nature
Collaboration with Tracey M Benson 2016

Picture

Tracey Benson of Byte Time had made a set of runes from stones collected while on an artistic residency in Iceland and gave them to Aishling Muller, to include as part of an installation about the elements of nature. She was asked to release them into nature once her installation work was complete. The resulting work was a beautiful performative video work with a recitation of Goethe’s poem “Spirit of Water” as the audio.

Dr Tracey M Benson is an Australian based interdisciplinary artist, academic and researcher. A systems thinker and connector across sectors, her work focuses on issues related to belonging, place, wellbeing and pro-environmental behaviour change. Walking has been central to her creative practice, exploring locative and augmented media tools to engage audiences to see their local places with fresh eyes. Her work has been extensively presented internationally in media arts festivals and exhibitions. With a passion for understanding different knowledge systems and engaging audiences, she often collaborates with Indigenous communities, historians and scientists. As part of her interest in integrated and holistic approaches, Tracey also is a trained Reiki practitioner specialising in remote Reiki and guided visualisation for holistic healing. She is also certified in ProSci Change Management and a Prince2 Practitioner.
My only caveat to her was that the stones be released back to the seas & that she document the event.
